New works
Edition SAMFUNDET in the process of developing new works for the Symphonic Fairytales catalogue. Texts by Norwegian, Swedish and Portuguese writers are to be combined with Danish composers. More to come. Please, contact us for further information.

Ib Nørholm
Danish composer Ib Nørholm, who wrote "The Bell" for Symphonic Fairytales, is celebrated across Denmark on his 75th birthday. Congratulations from us!

Sydney Festival
Sydney Festival features 3 works from Edition SAMFUNDET: Ib Nørholm "Impressions" based on The little Mermaid, Bent Lorentzen's "The Tinder-Box" and "The woman with the eggs" by Fuzzy at an open air concert in Darling Habour. For more information: Sydney Festival

Prizes for Symphonic Fairytales works
The Danish Arts Foundation has awarded special honourable prizes to Jesper Koch - The Snow Queen, Per Nørgård - The Will-o'-the Wisps, and Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen - Moving Still. The works are all related to Symphonic Fairytales. Mr. Gudmundsen-Holmgreen's piece for string quartet, tape and narration was commissioned by Edition SAMFUNDET for the Kronos Quartet. Each of the composers received 50,000 Danish Kronor for their respective works.

Kronos Quartet and Paul Hillier
The famous quartet and English singer/conductor Paul Hillier perform Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen's Moving Still on Friday in Copenhagen (Diamanten 8pm). The piece is based on Andersen's "In a thousand years" and the poem "In Denmark I am born" and commissioned especially for the performers by Edition SAMFUNDET. First performance in Tallin on 19th Oct, first Danish performance 21st Oct and first Swedish performance on 22nd Oct.

The Swineherd in Sweden
Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra performed "The Swineherd" to a large young audience on October 8th. The children on stage wore costumes and the hall was decorated with balloons and Andersen hats in all of the colours of the rainbow.

Andersen in Portugal
The official Andersen celebrations in Portugal organized by the Royal Danish Embassy in Lisboa ends on November 4th with a performance of Sven Erik Werner's "Fabliau" and Ib Nørholm's "The Bell" by the famous Gulbenkian Orchestra.

Bolero Prize
On June 18th the project Symphonic Fairytales was awarded The National Danish Radio P2 Music's "Bolero Prize" in a live broadcast featuring interviews and talk with Edition SAMFUNDETs managing director Klaus Ib Jørgensen.

"The Bell" and "The Swineherd"
"The Bell" by Ib Nørholm was first performed Wednesday 8th June by Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. The piece will already be performed by Aalborg Symphony Orchestra again on 30th June and 3rd July. Possible performances in Portugal and Egypt later this year! Next first performance in the project is Svend E. Nielsen's "The Swineherd" in Helsingborg on the 8th October, but check for more concerts below.

222 perform Lorentzen in Stockholm
May 11th and 12th Bent Lorentzens "The Tinderbox" was performed by 222 singers and musicians in Stockholm. 2200 in the audience - and great success!

13-15th April in Oslo
"The Shadow" on 6 concerts in Olso. School concerts sold out - and great succes in Olso Concert Hall at world premiere. More than 140 schools invited and more than 5000 children have heard the piece.

Tribute concert "The little match girl"
Sinfonieorchester Basel donates the proceeds CHF 5304,20 from the concert on 27th Feb. to the Hans Christian Andersen abc Foundation.

The international celebration begins!

The first premiere of a Symphonic Fairytales took place on Sunday 27th Feb in Switzerland.

Sinfonieorchester Basel and Danish conductor Frans Rasmussen presented the world premiere of "The Little Match-Girl and Other Tales" by Morten Olsen to a completely sold out hall of children and other guests.


We wish to thank the Royal Danish Embassy, Bern, and Mærsk Air for their special assistance with this concert.
